KUTX (98.9 fm) is the brand new and very, very excellent all-music sister station to Austin’s longtime National Public Radio station, KUT (90.5). Even though the KUT logo was adapted for KUTX, they still had no “visual branding” – no imagery or expression that was unique to KUTX. Working with their staff, I developed the branding for their launch marketing materials. The blimp was the perfect icon to express a new radio station that specializes in the Austin music experience, broadcasting from high above. The imagery was adapted to a variety of different mediums as part of the KUTX launch campaign.
Coldtowne Theater is one of Austin’s premiere improv, comedy and sketch clubs, and this was their first major design rebrand since opening in 2006. The driving force of the new brand is the logo and the triangular framing motiff, which is used in a variety of secondary applications. For the logo itself, I wanted it to convey the mystery and spontaneity of being on a stage that’s often associated with improv, a style of comedy performance done on the spot (Coldtowne also provides very excellent improv training classes.) The “spotlight on a brick wall” framing technique was then applied to a whole suite of icons to represent all the major categories that Coldtowne offers.

Quipt is a California based technology start-up that centralizes the essential functions required by both manufacturers and merchants alike to manage their entire e-commerce ecosystems. The Quipt collie was the perfect logo and mascot – always forward looking, keeping tabs on all his charges, and getting everything safely to where it needs to be. More brand applications will be rolled out in the near future.
Identity and branding for Verb Hair Care Products (created and produced by Birds Barbershop). My main goal was to design a brand that is complimentary to Birds. The brand will ultimately be carried across a whole suite of products. As an homage to Factory Records and their “Fac X” system, each Verb product will be identified by “Vrb” and a number. A complete color palette was created, as well as a fun series of promotional icons.

The Circuit of the Americas tapped me for branding services for their music festival, Austin Fan Fest, which will be taking place during the F1 United States Grand Prix in mid-November. In addition to designing the logomark, I also created a suite of racing/festival icons to be used in a variety of mediums. The headlining acts for Austin Fan Fest include Aerosmith, Cheap Trick, and Flo Rida.
