Creative execution and installation of this project was completed in February of 2008. When I was asked to create the murals for the third Birds Barbershop, on East 6th Street, I knew that the theme had to be Birds but also pay homage to the rich history of Austin’s east side. I spent long weekends walking the streets and taking photos of different elements that were ultimately introduced into the design. This mural was quite different than Birds Lamar. Rather than having a giant canvas, I had a narrow strip measuring two feet high and up to twenty feet long wrapped around almost the entire shop. The mural was printed on paper rolls and then I collaged different imagery, wheatpaste style.
